Hey everyone, I'm Old Chen from Cross-Border.
Yesterday I helped a European/American client place an auto parts order on 1688. We'd already agreed on the price and the payment was made, but then the supplier suddenly said:
"Boss, raw material prices have gone up. We need to cover the difference before we can ship the order."
At that moment, only one thought crossed my mind:
Are you watching to see if I'm getting ripped off on the exchange rate?
I suspect he saw my "cross-border person" face of wealth through the screen and thought I was there to hand over money.
I'd like to ask my peers:
-
When you encounter this "add extra charges after placing an order" scam, how do you handle it?
-
Is there a reliable way to lock in the price in advance and prevent them from pulling a fast one?
-
If switching suppliers, how can we ensure the goods don't get messed up and prevent European and American clients from thinking we bought them from Mars?
After a decade of cross-border business, even Old Chen has moments where he gets so frustrated he could scream... Share your experiences, everyone—let me know I'm not the only one forced to keep the business running.
