How to Add a Sidebar in WordPress

What is the WordPress Sidebar?

The sidebar is a widgetized part of the WordPress website where you can display content that is not on the homepage. Widgets are used to bring secondary material to the site. For example, a widget can show a list of recently posted blogs, a tag cloud, or a search bar.WordPress SidebarIt can be changed according to the page it appears on, or it can be populated with the same content on each page.

Administrators can use sidebars throughout the site or build multiple iterations of sidebars for different pages and themes. These parameters can be adjusted in WordPress using the active WordPress theme or plugin.

Method 1: Use WordPress Customizer

Add a sidebar to your WordPress site with the default theme options.

1. Go toAppearance > Customization > SidebarThe

Method 2: Create a customized sidebar using a WordPress plugin

The Custom Sidebars plugin is used in this example. It can be used to maintain and replace the sidebars of a website. It works with any theme and requires no coding. The process can be divided into two parts.

How to Make Your First WordPress Sidebar

1. Go toPlugins > Add New PluginAnd install the custom sidebar plugin.

2. After installing and activating the plugin, go to the dashboard on theAppearance > WidgetsThen select "Create new sidebar". After clicking on it, you are able to provide a name and description for the customized sidebar.

3. If you are creating multiple sidebars, assign a specific title to each sidebar to make it easier to remember which is which.

4. Under the customized sidebar area, the new item will now appear.

5. Now simply remove the required elements from the "Available widgets" column is dragged and dropped into the new WordPress sidebar template.

6. Select where the new sidebar will appear.

When creating a new custom sidebar, it will not appear on the front end unless the plugin is told where it should be placed. To determine where the new WordPress sidebar will appear, follow the steps below:

If the pop-up window shows "No replaceable sidebars. Allow at least one replaceable", make sure to check the theme sidebar section under "Allow replacement of sidebars"Checkbox.

3. On the next screen, it is possible to select from a long list of criteria, including sidebar and footer options. For example, selecting the sidebar option for the selected category determines which categories the sidebar should be displayed on.

4. After selecting the criteria, make sure you save the changes and everything is ready.

5. On the other hand, if you want to add a custom WordPress sidebar to a post or page, you need to update the page. After enabling the plugin, a new sidebar widget will appear in the WordPress editor for new and existing posts.

6. Now select the custom sidebars you want to use for different locations. If you only want to use one option, just leave the rest blank and WordPress will use the default settings.
