Building a WordPress website locally is not only safe, but also dramatically improves efficiency during website development or theme/plugin testing. As we all know, building a complete WordPress personal standalone website requires a server, domain name, SSL certificate, database and PHP environment, which are essential parts. In this chapter, we will first talk about how to choose and buy a server.

What's a server?

server (computer)It is a computer with a public IP address that runs 24 hours a day and is used to store your website files and allow others to access your website at any time via the Internet.

A simple example:

• You build a website on your own computer that no one else can access because your computer doesn't have a public IP and won't be on all the time;
• So you need to "put" your website on a "computer" that is always on standby and can be accessed globally - this computer is the "server This computer is the "server".

Server Options and Purchases

Here we choose the old big Tencent cloud as a demonstration, to show you how to select and buy servers do not step on the pit.

I. Login to Tencent Cloud and real-name authentication

Step 1: Visit the official website

Step 2: Register and verify your real name

• Register for a personal account
• Real-name authentication support: ID / WeChat / Alipay
• Only after this is done can you purchase a server and apply for a domain name filing

Second, choose a lightweight application server

Step 3: Go to the purchase page

Path 1: Console Home → Click [Products] → Search "Lightweight Application Server".

Choose your suitable package and click [Buy Now].

Configuring Server Parameters

Step 4: Select in the following order

Geographic selection recommended in their own near the region or outside the continent, the continental region of the server needs to be filed.

The rest follows the system or your own preferences.

Then pay for the order to complete the payment.

Log in to the server backend

Step 6: Go to the console to view the example

Path: Upper right console → Lightweight Application Server → List of instances

Step 7: Click on the instance [Manage], you can:

• View Public IP

• Enter WebShell to log into the terminal

• Manage ports, security groups, reboot/shutdown, etc.

By this point our server is configured.
