As a webmaster who deals with graphics every day, my biggest headache is not actually writing articles, but how to deal with those high-definition pictures that can easily take several megabytes. Speaking of which, if the pictures are not handled well, not only will the server bandwidth suffer, but the loading speed of the readers will be so slow that people will want to close the page.
In the WordPress world.Imagify respond in singing WP Smush Sort of two can't get around the top stream plug-ins. I've been tossing these two tools around lately, and in fact, although they can both reduce the size of the image, the "temperament" is not quite the same.

Imagify: The Gospel of the Lazy Webmaster, Almost No Brainstorming Required
Imagify is WP Rocket The product from the team comes with a sense of sophistication. If you're like me and don't want to get bogged down in all the complexity of parameters, this plugin might be right up your alley.

That addictive "smart compression" mode.
While many plugins let you choose between "Lossless" and "Lossy", Imagify gives you a "Smart" mode. In this mode, it will automatically find the best balance between image quality and volume. In my tests, I've observed that it can produce a very good picture quality. Avif Format pictures, the naked eye can hardly see the difference, but the volume can be directly shrunk 70% or more. This "one-click" experience really saves a lot of time for repeated comparisons.

Linking up with WP Rocket's Divine
If you're using WP Rocket to accelerate your site, then Imagify is a no-brainer. The compatibility between the two is very good, and there is no "fairy tale" errors. Once you turn on auto-optimization in the background, you can basically forget about it, and it will silently take care of new uploads for you in the background.
WP Smush: The Underbelly of a Veteran Player, A Look at the Control-Hungry Webmasters
WP Smush (as it's now customarily called) is more of a full-featured toolkit than Imagify's sophistication. The fact that it has a surprisingly high installed base in the official WordPress plugin repository speaks for itself.

Free version of the border, and that nagging 5MB
The biggest killer feature of Smush is its free version. As long as your single image doesn't exceed 5MB, it can press it for you. But then again, it's easy to skip that threshold with DSLR straight-out images these days. If you're in the business of photographic displays or high-quality material stations, the free version may be a bit of a handful to use. However, its batch processing interface is intuitively done, and watching the progress bar go by a little bit is quite an accomplishment.
Those additional features hidden in the details
Smush does more than just press images. It also comes with delayed loading (Lazy Load) and size limiting features for larger images. Many times when we upload an image with a resolution far exceeding that of the web page, Smush will remind you, "Hey, this image is too big, can I crop it for you?" This kind of housekeeping service is very helpful in maintaining the cleanliness of the site.

Who really presses harder? Talking about some actual test feedback
Everyone's main concern must still be: who can push the volume to the limit?
I did a small comparison on my own test site. For the same 2MB JPG sample, Imagify turned on smart compression and converted it to WebP The Pro version of Smush, in "Ultra Compression" mode, was able to compress the file to about 480KB.

In most cases, the difference between the two isn't really that big. But there is one thing I'd like to mention: Imagify will generate WebP or Avif for you by default, whereas the free version of Smush skimps a bit on that. If you're looking for the latest in image formatting technology, Imagify's responsiveness may be more than enough to satisfy you.

Which one to choose? Depends on your wallet and patience.
At the end of the day, choosing which plugin to use is really about choosing a workflow.
- If you're looking for the ultimate in frugalityIf you don't mind spending a few dollars a month on a cloud-based compression quota, then I highly recommend Imagify, which gives you a sense of "disappearance" that other plugins don't give you.
- If you're a cost-sensitive playerSmush's free version is more than enough to handle your uploaded images, and it's not a big deal. And it is also quite sophisticated to control the server resource consumption when processing pictures locally.
Which plugin are you using now? Or have you ever encountered any embarrassing moments in the process of using it where the image becomes blurry after half a day of pressing?
