Custom fields added successfully but not displayed in the foreground, what could be wrong?

I added custom fields to a page in WordPress (using native functionality, no plugins), and the backend saves them without error, but I can't see the corresponding content in the frontend page.
I have tried the following call in the template file:

Field name misspelled: my_custom_field name does not match the backend. Field value is empty: the field exists but has no content. Incorrect call location: get_the_ID() gets not the current page ID.
